Geese

A double weeknote starting 16 March 2026.

Kicking off a discovery

Starting to get a bit more momentum back in work now that we have our April to June priorities sorted. I'm leading a short discovery to help improve an inefficient casework process.

I've really enjoyed digging into the problem over the past few weeks and we already have a pretty detailed journey map, a rough service blueprint, and lots of information about the existing manual steps that our internal users have to navigate.

We also have a better understanding of how these things get published on our external facing services.

I think the initial plan was to finish the discovery at the end of March, but with competing team priorities and easter leave I think it may creep towards mid-April. Still, to think we've gone from not even knowing this was a problem to everything we know now, I'm feeling confident we've set ourselves up for success.

Personal stuff

  • Me and my wife have signed up to do a half marathon hike around Gower in June to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Please donate if you can.
  • I've also signed up for Swansea half marathon in June too. Going to be a busy month. Better start training.
  • I really enjoyed episode 146 of the Pod Save the UK podcast with Zakia Sewell. I'm intrigued by how we might make sense of the UK's cultural identity by looking back at myths and folklore. Zakia has written a book this topic. It's something that Blindboy has touched on too in his podcast back in episode 441 I think it was.

Geese

Band playing on a stage in a huge warehouse. They are backlit by bright white lights and smoke.

I went to see Geese last weekend in Bristol. The band were pretty new to me, but I loved it. Definitely a new favourite band.
