Canary Wharf, stopping early and sea swimming

A trip to London to meet the team.

Canary Wharf

I visited the NHS England offices in London this week. It was nice to meet the team properly for the first time. We even did our stand-up in the office, and actually stood up. It was like 2019 all over again.

The offices are in Canary Wharf which is a part of London I've never been too. It's got a strange vibe, but definitely worth a visit. It's nice being near the water, and cool to see people swimming there too.

I didn't sleep very well in the hotel, so I felt exhausted by the end of day two.

One is the magic number

It's been confirmed now that I'm going to be focusing 100% on the RAVS (record a vaccination) core team from October. I'll be sad to take a break from the RAVS plus team, but I'm looking forward to having more time to focus on fewer things.

Stopping early

I had a chat with our clinical assurance person on Friday. We're exploring adding a new question to our service, so we wanted to get their take.

Their recommendation was not to go ahead. They thought it wasn't needed in the majority of cases, and it ran the risk of confusing users. The answer offered little clinical value.

So, it looks like we'll be hitting pause on this piece of work. It's obviously great that we found this out in the design phase and were able to stop early. But I'm also wondering if I could've spoken to this person sooner, something to think about next time.

Gig and sea swimming

I had a busy weekend to finish the week off. I went to see a band called EarthBall on Saturday night. Their band camp page describes them as "a freeform, psychedelic ensemble".

Then, earlier today (on Sunday) we went to Rotherslade beach near Swansea for some pizzas and a sea swim. I think being in the water healed me a bit after a full-on week. Hoping it's not my last dip of the year.
