Maternity user research, clinics and my device lab

A busy week focused on a big new design iteration with the team.

Maternity user research

I started the week with a remote user research session with the Plus team. It was a discovery style chat with users who work in maternity settings. Our user researcher managed to give them a sneak peak of our vaccination invites and reminders work. It was good to get some early eyes on that.

Later in the week, we spent a good chunk of time reviewing and updating that invites and reminders work. To get it ready for a full round of user research, starting next week.

I enjoyed reworking the journey with the UCD (user centred design) team. By the end of the week it looked very different. I'm not sure if this was an indication that I'd missed the mark with earlier iterations, or just a natural sign that as a user research deadline approaches, minds get focused and everyone is more invested in getting things right.

Either way, I feel like the design was much stronger by the end of the week. Still, I'll try and involve people more often, to ensure what I'm working on doesn't come as a surprise.

Clinics kick-off

On the Core team, our other user researcher did a great little kick-off around a piece of work we were initially calling 'clinics'.

Due to some confusion (from me) we're going to rename the work to make it clearer that this work is focused on helping to optimise work flows when people are recording vaccinations in a clinic type setting (this might be in a different location and/or doing repetitive work).

It's not, as I thought, adding the ability to create a manage clinics directly from within our service.

I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this work. It'll be nice to have a chunky piece of work to pick up with the Core team.

Device lab

I also dusted off my lo-fi home device lab, ahead of some accessibility and device testing we have planned over the next few months.

Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage

I'm going to see Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage next week. I'm not sure I've heard them before, better give them a whirl!
